PORTISHEAD

Whomever did the onstage camera did all the work here. Brilliant production with excellent use of appropriate atmospheric filters for their set, as opposed to just enlarged on-stage antics. One of the most dramatic and fascinating live shows I’ve seen in ages, and besides Roger Waters, by far one of the best performances I saw that weekend.

THAT PIG THING

Interesting to see the news latch onto this part of the show. One thing I haven’t read was about the person in the audience with the lazer pen who had a pretty consistent bead on the Pig the entire time. After the band took a break and most people were loading up their pipes or firing up more spliffs, the big could still be see rising up into the night, green lazer squiggles continuing to mark it’s ascent for those who bothered to watch. My shitty clip does no justice to this spectacle, but at least I got the Waters remark on the audio.

APHEX TWIN

A technically excellent set for the ravers. But unless you were high as a kite and just wanted to move to syncopated sounds (and I wasn’t and didn’t), it pretty much blew if you were expecting something a bit more challenging, not some surly fellow in a chair on stage twirling dials, barely registering thousands of people in front of him.

COACHELLA CROWDS

Went back for more this year. Hotter temps, more freaks. This year I made films.
